Gerard Pique has admitted that the Barcelona club is in dire need of fresh legs, but their request was declined by Bayern Munich, who managed to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League with a stunning 8-2 victory over the Catalan side.
Setian replaced Ernesto Valverde midway through the campaign and he clearly refused to discuss his future.
Setien said, “I think that right now it’s too soon to be talking about whether I stay at the club or not. The reality is that it doesn’t depend on me. It’s worth all of us working out what’s important and considering a wide range of things which correspond to a defeat of this importance and which is so painful.”
Gerard Pique said, “No one is untouchable, least of all me. Fresh blood is needed. We have hit rock bottom now. We all need to reflect and see what’s best for Barça.”
“It’s a tremendously painful defeat. They scored more goals than they merited. We started pretty well but the power of the opponents, in many phases of the play, overran us,” he added.
“I think our team is in incredible shape. We worked so hard. We work with intensity. It is tough to beat us. We had so much fun today. They have special players and we had to be even more aggressive. There is a moment we catch the ball and we have so much talent in the front line. We feel good after this result. It was very special. But we have to be quiet. We have to regenerate.”
“The semi-finals started 0-0. A statement doesn’t matter. We have to win our next game as well. We have to be calm, relaxed, a little bit happy – but tomorrow morning we have to focus and concentrate. We aren’t here to win the quarter-final, we’re here to win the trophy. After these big wins, you have to be careful.”
